The powerful and soulful altoman Fredrik Kronkvist is considered one of Europe’s finest alto saxophonists and takes charge whenever he is in the spotlight.
Fredrik is an award-winning saxophonist and he has several albums out as a leader.
Both his writing and improvisational skills are on display when he gives the audience his experience in drawing the heat from a tune with his big sound.

He is leading his own band where he presents a quartet, consisting of musicians from the vanguard of today´s jazzscene.
His strong, creative spirit combined with a profound knowledge of the instrument and jazz has made him into one of Sweden’s international jazz stars.

2018. Releases his 15th album as a leader; Kronicles with Orrin Evans – piano, Martin Sjöstedt – bass and the legendary Jeff “Tain” Watts on drums. Release tour with the band in Scandinavia. Publishing a book Kronology with the music from 100 of his own compositions from his extensive discography.

2017. Releases two albums, both with stellar line-ups: On the Move with Gregory Hutchinson, Ameen Saleem & Martin Sjöstedt and Afro-Cuban Supreme with Jason Marsalis, Eliel Lazo, Miriam Aïda a.o. Touring Europe with the release tour for the Afro-Cuban Supreme album. Records at Sanctuary Studios/USA with Jeff “Tain” Watts, Orrin Evans and Martin Sjöstedt for Connective Records.

2016. Fredrik Kronkvist was Nominated for a Swedish Grammy 2016 for the album MONK VIBES feat. Jason Marsalis, Reuben Rogers & Gregory Hutchinson! Touring Europe with the Monk Vibes album. 2004. Fredrik is selected as one of ten young saxophonists under
30 from all over the world, to participate in the “World
Saxophone Competition 2004” at the London Jazz Festival.

2003. Releases the first CD with his own quartet, “Altitude”.
Receives great, both national and international, reviews.

2003. Fredrik Kronkvist Quartet wins the prestigious European
Jazz Contest, ”Jazz Hoeilaart International Belgium 2003”.

2002. Releases as co-leader the CD “Jan Lundgren Trio presents
Miriam Aïda and Fredrik Kronkvist”. The CD was a huge
success in Sweden receiving great reviews and a large
audience.

2002. Appears on National TV broadcasted from the Stockholm
Jazz Festival.

2002. Selected as “Newcomer Of The Year” by the Swedish
National Radio.

2002. Fredrik Kronkvist Quartet is selected as one of the Swedish
jazz groups, to tour extensively in Sweden, by the Swedish
Jazz Federation.

2001. The Fredrik Kronkvist Quartet is introduced, for the first
time, at the Copenhagen Jazz festival

2001. Performs at Berlin jazz festival, Copenhagen jazz festival,
and Stockholm Jazz Festival.

2001. Joins Swedish trumpeter of world fame Anders Bergcrantz
Quintet.

2000. Graduates at Malmö College of Music as Master in Fine Arts.

2000. Joins Tolvan Big Band. A band with an international
reputation as the most up-to-date and ambitious big-bands
anywhere in the world.

1998. Tours with Cuban drummer Calixto Oviedo.

1997. More wood-shedding and also performs with Cuban
musicians living in Sweden

1996. Woodsheds and starts to hang out in Malmö/Southern
Sweden and Copenhagen, making a name for himself on the
late night jam sessions.
